Role Models

I got home today and heard the news about the bickering of two hosts from the same station. Yes, I am talking about Willie Revillame and Jobert Sucaldito. I was not aware of the whole story and yet I am airing out my comment regarding the matter. Based on what I heard over TV Patrol, Willie got angry towards Jobert because of the badmouthing that the latter has been doing on his afternoon radio program against him. And according to Willie, which was shown via video clip also on TV Patrol, that he is trashing him, even in Jobert's newspaper column.

Like what I said, I do not know the whole story. What I am rambling about is the behavior that was exercised by Willie on his noontime show as he airs his side about the badmouthing of Jobert. I was in the office when Wowowee airs so I didn't get the chance to see the whole picture. But, as to what I have seen on the video clips aired by TV Patrol tonight, I would have to condemn Willie's behaviour. He 'dared' the management quite directly that the management should fire Jobert Sucaldito from ABS-CBN, and if not, he will leave his program.

Here are my points. Since I am working in a news agency, our TV in the office is tuned to the DZMM Teleradyo, where Jobert Sucaldito has an afternoon showbiz program. I admit that I do not watch the show all the time as we are just waiting for any breaking news that DZMM will air. But there are times when I have done all that I should do and just watch whatever it is on DZMM Teleradyo. I have seen Jobert's show a couple of times already and I haven't heard him comment about Willie. But of course it does not mean that when I did not hear anything from him about Willie, it did not happen at all. Plus, since I have watched the show, basically I know what the show is all about. As a commentator, which is what Jobert is in his radio program, they air their POV's about certain hot topics regarding celebrities. I have listened to them comment about this actress, this host, this politician, and honestly, the comments are sometimes really bad.

First, Willie should understand that with his line of work, he will always be under the spotlight especially now that the campaign period is in its full blast. And, we all know that he is campaigning for someone who even at the very beginning, he has been supporting already. Willie should also understand Jobert's line of work. Both of them are from the showbiz industry. Both of them are hosts of their own programs. Both of them has went through the whole show business process before they became who they are right now. Jobert's fame is not instant, and neither Willie's. Honestly, Jobert has not yet come in any way near what Willie has become now. He should not even say that Jobert should be fired. For what? For doing his job as a radio commentator? Jobert may have been accusing him of things, or maybe he has been saying a little too much negative opinions about Willie. But didn't Willie know that Jobert has been doing that also to a couple more celebrities? And not only to him solely? If Willie really wants Jobert to be sanctioned, then why not try talking to the management or more gravely, file a case if it is that offending for him? They are both in the same circle, why ask someone to be fired when you know that this is what he really do. That it is in his job description to comment. And you cannot control one person's mind so he has every right form his opinion. It just so happened that his voice can be heard not only by his peers but almost by the whole world.

My grandmother always watches Wowowee and I also watch his program when I'm home. Honestly, Willie should really be lectured on how to treat guests and players. I am not saying these to ruin your name for God's sake. I am not biased against you neither. In fact, I don't watch Eat Bulaga. I only watch Wowowee when it comes to noontime show. Sometimes, I really get offended on how you treat some of your guests and players. Sometimes I find it very offending when you laugh at someone's inability to comprehend at once what you are trying to imply. Sometimes you even forget how to respect other people's feelings. Yes I know that you are just joking and trying to make your audience laugh but is it worth it and necessary to make your audience laugh at your players' expense? Maybe some of your players don't mind that you are making fun of them but how sure are you that each and every one of those players totally don't mind being shamed in front of millions and millions of televiewers. You even shame some of your dancers on air. You may be a 'disciplinarian', a 'perfectionist', but is it worthy to point out your dancers underarm hair on worldwide telecast?

I agree with Jobert on what he said when he was interviewed by TV Patrol. How come you have the right to tell on the News and Current Affairs wrongdoing, during the late President Aquino's funeral, and you cannot be told on your attitude on air? What power do you have to comment on what the News and Current Affairs are doing, even though you are the host, and just the same what power does Jobert do not have to comment about your attitude, though he is a radio commentator?

Another point, your attitude toward ABS-CBN Management. Do you think that you are that powerful to dare the management to fire Jobert or else you will leave the program? And even if you have the power to demand things, is that the right attitude to show to the Management who gave you chances after chances everytime the MTRCB kicks your butt? You may generate the biggest income to the network, yes, but you will also be the reason of its failure. If you have to condemn other people's acts toward you, you can always go to the appropriate offices or write them a letter. What kind of an attitude is that for you to dare the Management on air? And I also do not understand that audience of yours when they clapped their hands while you were saying your piece. Are they just simply fooled by your charms or they are just simply encouraging you to be rude? I cannot understand why the network is tolerating your attitude. Are they just thinking about the present and just neglected the possible events that will come in the future following your actions? Are they now so afraid that they will lose Willie Revillame along with the advertisements that the show is generating for the company, to ignore their social responsibility?

For goodness' sake, you are being watched by millions of people, Mr. Revillame. Especially the kids, who are on summer vacation and watch Wowowee to be entertained. Do you really think that you are setting a good example to these kids that you always say 'the country's future'? Please always remember that you are being watched by many people around the globe. Always remember that your actions, even little ones, are magnified by the camera lenses. You are loved by millions of Filipinos and you will not achieve whatever you have right now if not for their love. In return, please be responsible of your actions and your words. Always remind yourself that whenever you are losing your temper on air, it does not win you sympathizers but you lose fans who are able to process between right and wrong.
